#8 – Your Neuro Light GUIDE

Because you are just getting started, here is a list of Neuro Light sessions you can use.  Step by step, you will learn more about creating your own session designs.  Until then, feel free to use the designs found in the Neuro Light MENU document located in this LEVEL ONE Learning section. Also make sure you review the General Guidelines in the “Welcome to the Neuro Light document.  They are very important.

Start with BRAIN FOOD

    1. Let’s assume you have the Nasal Light Stimulation (NLS) device.  Full purchases of the Neuro Light beginning January 1, 2017 include the NLS.  Otherwise you may purchase one directly by contacting Guy Harriman, the manufacturer of the Neuro Light.
    2. The NLS has three (3) time settings (15, 30, 45 minutes) and three (3) power levels (low, medium, high).
    3. Start with one or two 15 minute NLS sessions per day at low power.  After a few days move to two or three similar sessions.  Do not do more than 45 minutes per day total.  After more days move from low power to medium power.  See how you feel.
    4. I do not see using high power as common.  Medium power is fine.  Some sensitive people may feel a little irritation in the nasal mucosa if they use high power too long or too often.
    5. People with a lower vitality (Neuroplastic Capacity) may feel the following when they begin using BRAIN FOOD.  It is more common in a Transcranial Light Stimulation (TLS) process but can also occur using the NLS.  This is not a problem and will typically pass.  The trick is to not overdo it.

  • Tiredness (temporary) – probably due to the release of metabolites but the majority report a resurgence of energy
  • Headaches (temporary) – from the reactivation of neural connections and increased microcirculation
  • Dry throat (temporary) – from the stimulation of renal functions

  1. You may use the NLS anytime including while doing the Neuro Light Light/Sound Experience.
  2. A general warning is to not use BRAIN FOOD with persons having a known cancer diagnosis (especially of the nasal/head area) and persons with known bleeding problems.
  3. BRAIN FOOD is a support to Wellness and not a medical therapy or treatment.  It is not a substitute for medical treatment and any person under medical care including pregnancy with any concerns regarding BRAIN FOOD is advised to seek the advice of their medical practitioner.

Using the BRAIN GYM Neuroplastic Brain Trainings

  1. Go to the Trainings first (just below the Assessments choice).  These are excellent to build up your basic brain “fitness”.  It works just like basic exercise for your whole body.  It may not be very exciting but the results are attractive and affect almost everything else.  These Neuro plastic Capacity Trainings are “best buddies” with the BRAIN FOOD.
  2. You will notice there are three (3) levels of Trainings: Foundation, Intermediate and Advanced.  It is just like checking out an exercise or yoga class – Beginners, Intermediate, and Advanced.
  3. Please start using Foundation level Trainings.  If you are over 50 years old or weakened by illness or other challenges, the Foundation level will be very useful for a long time.  It is really not necessary to push up into Intermediate for even a few months and you may never need an Advanced level.  Actually for many people, Foundation Neuroplastic Trainings will work all the time just fine.
  4. There are four categories of Neuroplastic Capacity Training: Coordination, Flexibility, Endurance, and Strength.  Simply choose the one that best seems to match your general body condition.
  5. Start with one 11 minute Brain Training per day.  You may think that is not enough but the signals are actually exercising the brain responses so do not push it unnecessarily.
  6. You can do the same one over again each day or switch from one to another on alternate days.
  7. After a week or so, you can up it and do one 11 minute session, rest for 5 or 10 minutes, and then do a second 11 minute session of a different type.

Using the BRAIN GYM Brain Network Reinforcements

  1. After perhaps a week or two (sooner if you are younger and stronger), you can combine an 11 minute Foundation level Neuroplastic Capacity Brain Training with an 11 minute Brain Network Reinforcement.  Whenever combining session Compositions, give yourself a 5 to 10 minute break in between.  Just lay there and soak it up.  Alternately, you could do the session in two parts with the first earlier in the day and the second later in the day.
  2. There are seven (7) Brain Network Reinforcements.  Of the seven, there are three that I call The Big Three:
    1. Default Mode Network;
    2. Cognitive Control Network;
    3. Limbic Network.
  3. To make it SUPER simple, think of them this way:
    1. Default Mode Network – for those that can’t turn “IT” OFF;
    2. Cognitive Control Network - for those that can’t turn “IT” ON;
    3. Limbic Network - for those with emotional “STUFF”.
  4. There are two other Brain Network Reinforcements that can be used in Level One Learning in the MENU-GUIDE.  They also combine well with the Foundation Neuroplastic Capacity Brain Trainings:
    1. Dorsal Attention Network - for those that can’t FOCUS their awareness;
    2. Ventral Attention Network – for those that can’t OPEN their awareness.

Using the BRAIN SKILLS

  1. I often call the BRAIN SKILLS aspect of the Neuro Light the “Candy Store”.  It is just filled with all sorts of yummy stuff!  The understandable tendency is to want to immediately eat’em up.
  2. Please be a little patient here.  Getting good results from the BRAIN SKILLS compositions is MUCH more probable if you have increased your brain “fitness” in the BRAIN GYM.
  3. The full name of the BRAIN SKILLS compositions is Function Specific Brain Trainings because (unlike the BRAIN GYM that works with general areas of brain fitness) they target more specific areas and types of brain functions.
  4. You will notice that (just like in the Neuroplastic Capacity Brain Trainings) all the BRAIN SKILLS compositions are divided into Foundation, Intermediate and Advanced levels.  That’s because the BRAIN SKILLS Trainings have different degrees of demand on the brain.
  5. You probably have guessed that I am going to recommend that you start with Foundation level BRAIN SKILLS Trainings.  Yep!  Walk before you run.
  6. There are five “ZONES” of Function Specific Brain Trainings.  I have split tem up to make choosing them easier.  Also remember that in the Neuro Light User Interface, you can always read more about any composition just by clicking on the SHOW… feature to the right of the horizontal selection bar that has the name of the composition.  After reading about it, click on Hide… to make it go away.
  7. The five “ZONES” are: Peace, Cognition, Mood, Dependency, and Exploration.
  8. In the beginning, stick with Foundation level Peace, Cognition, and Mood compositions.  Look into the choices and pick one that seems to fit your needs and goals.
  9. At this point, you could design a three composition session (which is a BIG meal of Light/Sound).
    1. 11 minute Foundation level Neuroplastic Capacity Training of choice;
    2. Rest for 5 to 20 minutes;
    3. 11 minute Brain Network Reinforcement of choice;
    4. Rest for 5 to 10 minutes;
    5. 11 minute Foundation level Brain Skills Training of choice.
  10. More conservatively perhaps split them up throughout the day and not so them back to back.
  11. Also you could do just two compositions but include a Brain Skills Training:
    1. You have two options:
      1. 11 minute Foundation level Neuroplastic Capacity Training of choice;
      2. Rest for 5 to 20 minutes;
      3. 11 minute Foundation level Brain Skills Training of choice
    2. OR
      1. 11 minute Brain Network Reinforcement of choice;
      2. Rest for 5 to 10 minutes;
      3. 11 minute Foundation level Brain Skills Training of choice.
