About (Lucid) Dreaming

The insightful appreciation of the roles played by Brain Resting State Networks in Consciousness is creating new roads in understanding Awareness in its many disguises. To the best of my knowledge, the NL is the first (and currently only) device to harness the Harmonic Frequencies of the major Brain Networks (from research released earlier in 2016).

Now about Dreaming...

The Rapid Eye Movement (REM) sleep phase is recognized as the "dreamtime" of sleep (which has many reasonably predictable stages). As everyone can attest, dreams are typically disjointed and fragmented. As an "uncommon" state, they are universally experienced. In fact, dreams are probably the most "common" of "uncommon" states:-)) It is the disruption of the Default Mode Network (DMN) in R.E.M. sleep that creates the fertile terrain for the emergence of dreams. This "vacuum of disorganized nonsense" draws in the psychic symbology from our personal/cultural library which results in the "cinema verité" of our sleep time "Mental Movies". This is the reason (I expect) that Freud called dreams the "royal road" into the unconscious of the individual. Dreams (as an uncommon psychic vacuum) draw into cognition elements of our experience that are stored in unconscious vaults of the mind. Which brings us to the issue of Lucid Dreaming. The hallmark of lucid Dreaming is the determined involvement of the dreamer. Instead of being swept along like a leaf in the wind of unconscious symbolic associations, the lucid dreamer becomes increasingly aware that this IS a dream. This is a departure from the typical delusion that accompanies most dreams in which the dreamer has no sense of the fabrication of this special (disjointed) mental movie. As with the delusional schizophrenic (in which a network of marginal subject associations creates a bizarre but believable pattern of scenes) the typical dreamscape is a series of apparently related themes arranged by some hypersensitive editor. The learned behavior of lucid Dreaming has a very close relationship to the Observer state practiced in various psychological and spiritual traditions. (This Observer state is a key factor in reducing the Limbic Trauma Loop discussed in other FB posts). As explained above, R.E.M. (Dream) sleep is characterized as a condition in which the DMN is disrupted/inhibited. The introduction of the Observer perspective initiates the first stages of lucid Dreaming. In terms of our Brain Resting State Networks, the DMN and the Cognitive Control Network (CCN) are oppositional (meaning when one is dominant the other must "shut up".). It is also recognized that the "executive task control" characteristic of the CCN is engaged to initiate and sustain the Observer perspective in consciousness. It then easily follows that reinforcing the CCN via the NL Brain Gym Network Reinforcement feature would couple effectively with willful intention to help establish advancing experiences of lucid dreaming.
